Dinner: Chateau Morrisette (American cuisine)

Restaurant at Chateau Morrisette

After we visited the winery and completed the tasting, we stayed for an amazing dinner at Chateau Morrisette. We decided to split a bottle of wine between a pair and decided what we wanted for dinner before asking what wine pairing would be best. We decided on the appetizer of fruit and fromage and a dinner of filet minion with two sides. The wine pairing that was suggested was Petite Verdot. It was a 2008, 100% Petite Verdot, grown in Virginia, USA. It is described as invites with traces of vanilla emerging from rich, dark fruit aromas. Wild berry and raisin flavors mingled with savory nuances of black pepper and toast, all wrapped in robust, velvety tannins. Mocha joins the berry character through the long finish. Try the Petit Verdot with juicy grilled steaks or sharp cheeses. Before tasting the wine with food, it smelled of pepper. It was very good, probably the best we had all day. I could taste blackberry or some sort of berry in the wine.

Fruit and Fromage

I first tried it with the cracker that accompanied the cheese and fruit. It gave the wine a very spicy taste. Gruyere cheese was next; it made the wine taste of pepper and grape. Fontina was the next cheese; it made the wine more smooth, light on the tongue, dry and berry flavor. The next cheese was cheddar that was aged 10 years. The cheese by itself was amazing. It brought out the spiciness in the wine, plum flavor, and it was easier to swallow. I tried my friends crab dip with the wine and it was amazing. It brought out the blackberry and current in the wine.

Filet with corn pudding and mashed potatoes

For dinner I had the Filet, which let me start off with the fact that the steak itself was orgasmic. The spices and wine used to make the steak were amazing. It brought out the spiciness of the wine; it had a very peppery taste. This paired so well with the wine. The mashed potatoes were my first side. They were very good and made the wine taste spicy initially, then smooth with a berry finish. Corn pudding was my second side. It was not traditional sweet corn pudding; it had something spicy in it. The corn pudding made the wine taste very spicy, but the spices in the corn pudding were so overpowering that I did not taste anything but spicy and corn pudding. The dinner was amazing! I would definitely go back… but probably with my parents because it was a bit out of my budget.
